Elevate your coaching by enrolling in the Level 2 Development Coach course, a specialized track and field coach education program tailored for club coaches working with athletes aged 12-18.
 
This course teaches coaches the basic technical models of the Track and Field events held at club and school level competitions, in addition to general training principles for coaching intermediate level athletes.

  • Further Warm Ups and Cool Downs
  • Introduction to the Principles of Training
  • Introduction to Physiology
  • Development and Maturation (including development models)
  • Dynamic Stretching
  • Introduction to Plyometrics
  • Functional Movement Training
  • Planning and Periodization for Track and Field
  • Coaching a Technical Model – Sprints (including Block Starts, 100m, 200m, and Relays)
  • Coaching a Technical Model - 400m and 800m
  • Coaching a Technical Model – Middle Distance (up to 3000m)
  • Coaching a Technical Model – Long Jump
  • Coaching a Technical Model – Triple Jump
  • Coaching a Technical Model – High Jump (Scissors and Fosbury Flop)
  • Coaching a Technical Model – Discus
  • Coaching a Technical Model – Shot Put (Glide only)
  • Coaching a Technical Model - Javelin (9-stride approach)
  • Coaching a Technical Model - Race Walks
  • Coaching a Technical Model - Combined Events
  • Coaching a Technical Model - Para-Specific Events (Wheelchair Track and Road and Seated Throws)

Requirements to Gain Accreditation
  • Completion of a two-day face to face course or a one-day face-to-face to face and 5-session online course.
  • Working with Children Check clearance.
  • Completion of multi-choice assessment.
  • Completion of post-course planning assessment.
  • Completion of practical coaching assessment, to be completed by an approved assessor.

The Level 2 Development Coach accreditation is designed for coaches interested in working with athletes aged 12+ years old, and/or want to be involved in the Introduction to Training and Training I (General) stages of development (outlined in Athletics Australia’s Training and Competition Guidelines for Children and Adults).
